Ship your clarinet safely
Pack the clarinet (in its case) in a sturdy box with ample bubble wrap (no packing peanuts) and ship via FedEx or UPS. We recommend insuring your shipment. Remove all accessories: swabs, cleaning supplies, reed cases, anything that isn't the instrument itself. Want your mouthpiece serviced at the same time? Include it in the case and we'll handle it for an additional $60.
Receive your overhauled instrument
Turnaround is approximately one week for most soprano clarinets. When your instrument ships back, it will have been fully disassembled, cleaned, oiled and polished, rebuilt with premium materials, and play-tested by our team. Every overhaul is backed by a one-year warranty on craftsmanship and materials.
Most soprano clarinet overhauls (Bb and A) are completed within approximately one week from the time your instrument arrives at our workshop. Eb, alto, and bass clarinets or older instruments that need additional work may take longer. We’ll give you a clear timeline when you schedule.
The RMS Artist Overhaul is $1,295 for Bb or A clarinets*, $1,395 for Eb clarinets, and $4,500 for low C bass clarinets. That covers the complete 10-hour disassembly, cleaning and rebuild — every pad and bumper replaced with premium materials, full mechanical recalibration, and final play-testing by a symphony professional. All work includes a one-year warranty on craftsmanship and materials. (*Older clarinets and instruments in need of restoration may incur an additional fee for extra labor and materials.)
For context, players who go the piecemeal repair route at a local shop typically spend $500 to $650 just to get a new instrument into reasonable playing condition, and those repairs will need to be repeated as additional pads and components wear. The Artist Overhaul addresses the entire instrument at once with superior materials built to last.
