The Backun Q Series A Clarinet shares the same Lumière-derived bore, construction, and design philosophy as the Q Series Bb, giving players tonal consistency between instruments.
The grenadilla body produces a dark, warm tone with a centered core that projects well in orchestral, chamber, and solo settings. The A’s slightly longer tube adds depth and richness, particularly in the chalumeau and throat-tone registers. Precision under- and over-cut tone holes keep the scale even and reliable across all registers, with the consistent intonation that players and reviewers consistently cite as the Q Series’ strongest quality.
The Q Series A features a removable left hand auxiliary key (Ab/Eb) and inline trill keys- eliminating the condensation buildup common in the traditional offset Eb key. A carbon fiber joint ring reinforces the tenon joint. Triple-plated keywork is durable and responsive, and custom black leather pads provide a consistent seal throughout. The instrument ships with Lumière barrels and bell.
