Atlanta's boutique clarinet specialists

Every musician deserves to perform without limits

Rodriguez Musical Services is a family-run clarinet shop in Marietta, Georgia, built on a simple belief: the instrument should never be the obstacle. We hand-select Buffet Crampon clarinets from the factory and carry a curated line of Backun instruments. Then, we optimize each one to a symphonic performance standard and guide every buyer—parent or professional—to the right instrument for their goals.

Meet Heather and Alcides Rodriguez

Alcides Rodriguez is a clarinetist in the Atlanta Symphony and a Backun and Vandoren performing artist

As a young clarinetist in Venezuela without a repair shop nearby, he began fashioning his own pads and bumpers out of everyday materials, improvising springs and diving deeper into the mechanics of the instrument.

He came up through Venezuela’s El Sistema program, then left for the United States in 1999 with a clarinet, a suitcase, and a little English. Music degrees from Baylor and Northwestern Universities and a chair in the Atlanta Symphony later, he was still doing the same thing he had done since he was a kid: taking clarinets apart and making them play better. Today, Alcides manages the clarinet shop, overseeing all repair work and doing final play testing and adjustments.

Heather Rodriguez runs the business side of Rodriguez Musical Services

With years of experience in the clarinet industry, as well as clarinet performance degrees from Baylor and Northwestern, she built the operation around a principle she comes back to often: every family and every player deserves the same personal attention, whether they’re a beginning student or a professional.

The RMS workshop includes Jonas Rodriguez, the head clarinet repair technician who trained extensively and mastered his skills with Alcides. The clarinet selection team includes Patrick Graham, a clarinetist with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, and Alexandre Chabod, Co-Principal of the Paris Opera Orchestra.

A great clarinet can still leave a player struggling

Factory assembly gets a clarinet to roughly 80% of what it’s capable of. The remaining 20%—evenness of response, smoothness of the key action, richness of tone across every register—requires individual attention that mass production can’t provide.

In high-stakes situations—like All-State auditions or symphony performances—that gap between “good” and “performance-ready” can be the difference between flying through and falling short.

We hold every instrument to the standard of a working symphony professional

Alcides Rodriguez, clarinetist in the Atlanta Symphony, play-tests every hand-selected Buffet Crampon clarinet we carry. Each one receives a full nine-hour optimization in our workshop. We replace factory components with custom leather pads and premium materials, recalibrate key work, and adjust every mechanism until the instrument meets the same standard Alcides demands of his own concert instruments.

The result is a clarinet that responds with the precision and richness a serious player needs from the first note.
